“We sent a formal letter by certified mail in January,” she said. “To your home address in Arlington Heights. Then we followed up by phone in February when we didn’t hear back.”
“Who signed for the certified letter?”

Nate had known about the inheritance for three months before I did. He’d opened the letter, read it, and never said a word. He let me hear about it from Patricia in February and act surprised. And somewhere in those three months, he’d figured out that the man who’d secretly divorced his wife had no claim to her fifty million dollars.
