“She’s staying out of it. She’s been through enough.”
“What if Mom makes another video?” Rachel asked.
“Then we’ll deal with it.”
“She’s going to blame you again.”
“Probably.”
Nathan frowned. “Doesn’t that scare you?”
We discussed the plan together.
“Of course. But I’m more afraid of disappointing Sophie.”
- I reviewed family photographs,
- checked dates, and
- gathered old workshop records.
That evening, Rachel and Nathan helped me prepare the video.
“Let’s start with our childhood photos,” Rachel suggested.
We’ll deal with it.
“And show how you raised all seven of us,” Nathan added.
“What about the workshop?” I asked.
“Definitely,” Rachel said. “People should see what we built together.”
We selected photographs of birthdays, school events, and the furniture I’d made for each child.
Then I sat at Sophie’s desk and started recording.
Let’s start with our childhood photos.
Rachel appeared on camera.
“Dad never told us to hate our mother. He just made sure we knew we were loved.”
Nathan followed.
“We weren’t always comfortable. But we were never unwanted.”
The other older children shared their memories, too.
Rachel appeared on camera.
Finally, I included footage from our home security cameras showing Vanessa screaming at Sophie during the birthday party.
Then I looked into the camera.
“My ex-wife says children steal your best years. Mine gave me a reason to make those years count.”
No insults. No threats.
Just ten years of our lives.
The other older children shared their memories.
I posted it the following evening.
I expected a few hundred views.

By breakfast, my phone wouldn’t stop ringing.
“Dad!” Rachel shouted. “You’ve passed three hundred thousand!”
“Views?”
My ex-wife says children steal your best years.
“What else?”
Nathan called minutes later.
“One of Vanessa’s sponsors just paused her campaign!”
“Already?”
“Apparently, people are flooding their page with comments.”
You’ve passed three hundred thousand!

Three days later, Nathan called.
“More sponsors are reviewing Mom’s contracts.”
“All because of our video?”
“And what she said about Sophie, Dad.”
Then the furniture company’s marketing director called.
One of Vanessa’s sponsors just paused her campaign!
“Daniel, we watched your video. We’ve terminated Vanessa’s partnership.”
“I appreciate you letting me know.”
“Actually, there’s something else. We’re launching a restoration campaign, and we’d like your workshop involved.”
“You’re offering me a contract?”
“Your work speaks for itself, Daniel. It always has.”
What she said about Sophie…
I barely had time to process that before Vanessa called.
“YOU DESTROYED MY CAREER!”
“Good morning to you too.”
“Do you have any idea how much money I’ve lost?”
“No.”
We’d like your workshop involved.
“Rob’s business partners saw everything! Now he’s blaming me for the scandal and threatening divorce!”
“That sounds like something you should discuss with Rob.”
“You planned this!”
“I told the truth.”
“Delete that video!”
YOU DESTROYED MY CAREER!
“No.”
“I’ll make you!”
“You’re welcome to speak with a lawyer.”
“After everything, you still want revenge.”
I glanced toward the workshop, where Sophie was helping Nathan photograph a restored cabinet.
“No, Vanessa. I wanted our children to stop being treated like something shameful.”
I told the truth.
She hung up.
I hadn’t asked anyone to stop following her. I’d simply shown people the family she’d spent ten years pretending didn’t exist.
But the most important response came from Sophie.
“Dad, people are saying nice things about us.”
“Some people are.”
I hadn’t asked anyone to stop following her.
