Under the Lights
An hour after the final whistle, the stadium lights were beginning to hum and flicker against the gathering darkness of the November evening. The grandstands were completely empty now, the crowds having long since dispersed into the warm cars and cozy homes scattered across the valley.
Only a few stragglers remained: Coach Miller locking up the equipment shed, the stadium caretaker hosing down the mud-spattered benches, and Ethan and me standing alone near the center circle of the pitch.
